Farhad Mazhar’s wife rejects police probe into ‘abduction’

Farhad Mazhar’s wife on Thursday rejected a police investigation that had found anomalies in the statements given by the writer and his family over an alleged abduction.
Mazhar’s wife, Farida Akhter moved a no confidence during the day’s hearing in the court and suggested counter actions instead.
The hearing was scheduled to decide decide whether charges will be pressed against Mazhar and his wife for ‘fabricating’ the lawsuit and statements in court over an alleged abduction.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Khurshid Alam adjourned the day’s hearing till January 9, 2018 and told Farida Akhter, Mazhar’s wife, to move the petition on that date.
Detectives have already sought permission to sue Mazhar and his wife Farida for faking the writer’s abduction and giving false statements to a court and police.
Back in July 3, Farhad Mazhar was said to have been kidnapped by unknown miscreants from Adabar in Dhaka in the early hours.
Farhad in a judicial statement before a magistrate said unidentified men blindfolded him and put him into a microbus after he came out of his Adabor house to buy medicines on Luly 3 morning.
Later, police found him aboard a ‘Hanif Paribahan’ bus at Nayapara in Abhaynagar upazila of Jessore district while he was returning to Dhaka from Khulna.
The IGP and many other law enforcement agencies had demanded that the abduction story was fabricated.
